When Rumours Of School Pregnancy Go To Far

There was a civil lawsuit filed against a middle school that is all over the news right now. The civil suit has been filed against a school counselor who has been accused of forcing a twelve year old girl to take a pregnancy test. This course of action was supposedly based on rumors that were circulating through the school at the time. Rumors that the girl stated were completely false but apparently not to the satisfaction of the school counselor who took it upon himself to have the child take a pregnancy test.

Here’s where all this has gone wrong. The rumor that the girl was pregnant was enough for the school counselor to take action. Good grief if school counselors acted this way every time they heard a rumor traveling through the school they would have no time to actually teach anyone. They would be spending all their time reacting to school rumors.

That’s what we do when we are kids we learn to talk gossip and spread rumours both true and false. Some of us actually keep doing this as adults as well. Anyway the “did you hear who’s pregnant” rumour was a very common one that usually made the rounds during high school years. Unfortunately now a days those pregnancy rumours are turning out to be true more often than we would like to hear.

Regardless of the situation though if the accusations turn out to be true against the school counselor. He clearly overstepped his boundaries and the legal rights of the child and the parents of the child. The accusation that the counselor acted on his own and did not notify the parents of his concerns and just acted was way out of line.  The school has made strong statements stating that there have never been pregnancy test kits in their school system and the counselor is still at active in his position.

Could this be an attempt by a small group of girls to discredit the counselor? There are new reports surfacing that there are at least two other girls and possibly a third that was forced to take a pregnancy test in this same school. It will be interesting to see what more information comes out about this civil case as they move closer to the court date.
