Pregnant women around the world are being reassured in the news lately that the drug Reglan is safe to use on a short term basis for relief from that nausea caused by morning sickness. It’s been all over the news lately since the results from this massive study and the largest of it’s kind up until this day. The study was done in Israel and covered the pregnancy results of over eighty thousand pregnancies and live births. The results from the study gives major support to the line of thinking that it is indeed quite safe for pregnant women to combat the ill effects of morning sickness on a short term basis.
So my first question after reading the news about this morning sickness pill is how many women will really consider taking this drug. You see there are actually quite a lot of law suits against the safety of Reglan and that there was not enough testing in terms of the long term safety of the drug. There are quite few suits concerning Reglan and it’s potential in causing neurological disorders. I am left wondering when I read about a large study like this one and how much weight that carries in the decisions of people and their thoughts about the results and the drug in question.
I personally don’t like to take any drug of any kind not even a Tylenol for an occasional headache. So for me they can pile up the studies in front of me proving the safety of some wonder drug that promises to fix this or change that and I will still choose to stay on the side of caution and go with a natural choice if at all possible. Of course when you are in the thick of something as terrible as morning sickness and the feeling of nausea will just not go away I know most people will try everything and anything to make that stop.
